Another stunning book from Alberto Moravia. Charles Dickens, English novelist, generally considered the greatest of the Victorian era. She couldn’t find any safe shelter in the city and so she decides to stay in her village until the war ends. Cesira has an affair with a married man, while her daughter no longer speaks to anyone, which ultimately erects a wall of silence, diffidence and the inability of each woman to feel any goodwill towards the other – an authentic portrayal of the barbarity of war.
Simple narrative with a profound look at the human nature during times, deprived of humanness.
