Wealthy businessman Rex Fortescue is found dead with rye grain in his pocket. His death is followed in quick succession by a woman dying. A Pocket Full of Rye opens with the death of Rex Fortescue, a successful but not universally liked financier. Curiously, rye is discovered in one of his pockets.

She is the creator of the two most enduring figures in crime literature-Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple-and author of The Mousetrapthe longest-running play in the history of modern theatre. Miss Marple once again relies on her age, and indeed the stereotypes associated with it gossiping to obtain an insight into all those involved, and her skills of finding parallels for character in people she has known in St Mary Mead too come to her aid.

The Man with No Face When a young bride moves into a country manor, long repressed childhood memories of witnessing a murder come to the surface. I did notice two jarring notes in this very entertaining book. It is a good thing that Miss Marple was nosy and went to the scene pocoetful the crimes.

Its fun to see Tom Wilkinson in a younger role. Published January 1st by Signet first published November 9th Keep track of everything you watch; tell your friends. Vivian Dubois Tom Wilkinson Christie also made sure that all the characters in this book blend poc,etful the main plot, which is really nice.
I can’t say that I liked this story a lot, and I can’t even put my finger on why this is. Lf more plausible reason was that it was a reference to something from her life. Originally I gave th Sing a song of sixpence, A pocket full of rye.

The characters are lightly and deftly sketched and an antiseptic breeze of humour prevails.

When upper middle class businessman Rex Fortescue dies while having tea, the police are shocked. Around the Year i Her books do have a comforting familiarity. Old lady wanders onto multiple murder scene, annoys American cops, American cops plant crack pipe on old lady, subject her to a strip search and interrogation, drop her 20 miles outside of town, murder, of course, remains unsolved.
A handful of grain is found in the pocket of a murdered businessman! First, I really enjoyed the manner in which the plot is unraveled in the book. Without a doubt this has been one of my favourite books in the Miss Marple challenge. Dry humor to set the scene; the murder; the investigation; more dead bodies; the red herrings; the revealing.
Soon however Rex’s young wife also turns up poisoned. Moving on, I’d like to say that this Inspector Neele person is a super Lestrade. Unbelievable- I found a Miss Marple I don’t recall reading! As the investigation progresses, Miss Marple inserts herself into the case and soon links the murder to a rhyme.
It also provides an unexpected and emotional denouement. The older son, Percival, admits that his father was senile and ruining the business.
